Yet another cold

The weekend was pretty good - we went to a family party on Saturday which I had been a bit apprehensive about, not really knowing that side of Anna's family that well, but in the end it was quite good, and the kids enjoyed themselves (there was a bouncy castle). Sunday was a bit quieter but at least the weather was still nice so the kids could play out in the garden.

Nicky started coming down with a cold on Sunday, and by Sunday night myself and Kitty had caught it too, so we had an unpleasant couple of days, but we're more or less over it, although Rory has been showing signs of a runny nose. I had to work on Monday which wasn't ideal with my cold (and the glorious bank holiday weather outside) - in all I went six days without going out on my bike, but managed an hour this morning - although I narrowly avoided being swiped off my bike! A woman, who wasn't looking AND was talking on her mobile phone pulled out into the road right in front of me - I had to swerve onto the other side of the road to avoid her, luckily there was no oncoming traffic - had I been thinking clearly I would have taken her licence plate number but my initial reaction was basically to make sure I was safe and then to hurl some choice expletives at the driver - there is a spike in my heart rate on the graph at this point!

Not long until my first sportive (19th May), fingers crossed that my new bike will arrive in time!

Not so great

I wasn't feeling so well mentally last week. I can't think of any cause for it but for a few days I was very anxious about things. I managed to work and exercise as usual but part of me just wanted to go back to bed for the day. I'm feeling better this week thankfully.

Things seem to be getting back on track with training for RideLondon - I managed an 80km ride last week and 100km this week. My legs are suffering a bit so I've booked myself in for a bike fit and physio session next month which will hopefully get things back to normal.

Yesterday marked 16 years since Anna and I first met - I don't think either of us remembered (I thought it was today!) We went to see Avengers: Infinity War yesterday which was really good, but the year-long wait for the sequel is going to feel like a long time.

Got a busy week ahead - I went out last night for a meal with my brother, tonight I'm going out with some friends for a curry, tomorrow I'm meeting another friend for …

Two birthdays down...

Kitty was seven years old yesterday. What with that and the BRIT Awards last night I'm feeling very old at the moment!

Her main present was a pair of heelys which she was very happy about. She invited a couple of friends to go to the local soft play which is much easier than organising a party!

Things seem pretty hectic at the moment and I'm not getting much rest, but Anna and I have a night away this weekend which should allow us some peace! We also saw Black Panther yesterday which was very good.

My calves are a little sore at the moment from cycling/exercise but otherwise I'm feeling OK. I managed a 50 mile ride last week so my base fitness isn't too bad, I just need to start training properly. Hopefully it will warm up soon!

Clacton and Manics

The weekend in Clacton went pretty well, the caravan is still in reasonable shape and there's nothing we need to worry about before the Isle of Wight. It stayed dry all weekend so putting the awning up and packing it away was straightforward - nice to not have to worry about it being dry! I still don't especially like towing it but there were no major dramas. The most disappointing thing was the breakfast in the Toby Carvery on the Sunday morning - I'd been looking forward to it but there wasn't a great deal of fresh food available and we had to wait 15 minutes for clean cups for hot drinks.

Last Tuesday we went to see the Manics at the Royal Albert Hall. They played the full Everything Must Go album as well as a second set of assorted songs.

The support band were Editors.

I struggle to think of a support band I've ever enjoyed - I can remember the really bad ones (Goldie and My Vitriol were particularly bad) but there's never been one that I really enjoyed. Ed…
